Drama
Drama at Canbury focuses on building stagecraft and making the most of individual talents both onstage and off.
Every Year, our Christmas entertainment unites all three years in an original production that maximises the students’ talents and immerses them in the excitement of a full-scale stage show. The show is a collaboration with a skeleton or script provided by the teacher, which the students flesh out with their ideas, characters, and dialogue. Throughout the Year, students can participate in an extra-curricular Drama club learning new devising skills.
KS3
In Key stage three students are timetabled for one hour of Drama a week. Students explore improvisation, physical theatre, slapstick comedy, storytelling, and Shakespeare throughout lower school. The work naturally builds confidence, invaluable communication skills, and teamwork.
In Year Nine, students study for a Bronze Arts award. This qualification enhances art form knowledge, evaluation problem-solving skills, and resilience. The students complete a portfolio as their Arts Award journey outlining their responses to theatre productions, research projects, presentations, and performances.
KS4
At KS4 GCSE Drama (Eduqas) is offered and timetabled for three hours a week. The course allows students to explore Drama as actors, directors, and designers practically. Students will work from scripts, create their own plays, examine features of technical theatre, write essays, and participate in live theatre trips. Drama GCSE complements other options and helps cultivate life skills such as oral and written communication.
