Extended Project Qualification (EPQ)
The Extended Project Qualification (EPQ) is a highly valued, standalone course that is equivalent to half an A-Level. At Canbury this is part of the sixth form offer and one of the courses students will study in year 12.
It allows students to design, research, and execute their own project on a topic of personal interest, independent of their other qualifications. This process develops essential university and career skills such as independent research, critical thinking, and project management.
Qualification & Assessment
Qualification Value
Equivalent to half an A-Level (AS-level)
Available Grades
A* to E (Grades are awarded on the same scale as A-Levels, with A∗ being the highest grade.)
Basic Premise
Students complete a project (e.g. a 5,000-word written report or an artefact/production with a shorter report) and deliver a formal presentation.
Universities often recognise the EPQ for its development of independent learning skills and may include it in conditional offers.
