BTEC Level 2 Award: Travel & Tourism
Explore the World. Build a Career. Make an Impact.
Travel and Tourism is one of the world’s fastest-growing and most dynamic industries. At Canbury, our BTEC Level 2 Tech Award offers students a unique opportunity to look behind the scenes of this global sector, transforming a passion for travel into professional expertise.
Why Choose Travel & Tourism?
Unlike traditional academic routes, this BTEC qualification is highly practical. It is designed for students who want to develop “real-world” skills, from understanding customer needs to researching global destinations. Whether you are interested in airline operations, sustainable ecotourism, or holiday management, this course provides the foundational knowledge to succeed.
What You Will Study
The course is broken down into three key components that balance theory with hands-on investigation:
-
Travel and Tourism Organisations and Destinations: Investigate the different types of tourism (leisure, business, and adventure) and why certain destinations, from the UK’s own hidden gems to exotic international hotspots, become world-famous.
-
Customer Needs in Travel and Tourism: Develop the “people skills” that drive the industry. Students learn how to analyse customer requirements and provide the perfect travel solutions, building vital communication and problem-solving skills.
-
Influences on Global Travel and Tourism: Explore the “Big Picture”. How things like sustainability, climate change, and technology are reshaping how we travel. This component prepares students to think critically about the future of our planet.
Skills for the Future
The BTEC Level 2 is more than just learning about holidays; it is about developing a professional toolkit:
-
Research Skills: Navigating complex data to find the best travel options.
-
Business Awareness: Understanding how the economy and global events impact the industry.
-
Communication: Building confidence in presenting and interacting with diverse groups of people.
Students who choose this option for Year 10 and 11 will have 3 hours a week on their timetable allocated to this subject.
